New Line in an Existing Factory: What you should ask yourself

When management decides to build a new production line inside an existing factory plant, one of the main problems that arises is the layout of the new machines to optimize the space without compromising production efficiency.

Each situation obviously requires individual research and advice; apart from this, there are some basic questions that apply to everyone.
Here is a short list:

  1. How far away from the walls should the machine be placed?
  2. What is the overall height of the model we have chosen?
  3. What power capacity is needed to run it?
  4. How large must the power cables be?
  5. Is it better to use a power cable with a flexible sheath, with a wall socket, or is it better to connect it to a busway lowered down from above?

Another important issue refers to the utilities required by the machines.
For instance it is important to assess the following aspects with regards to capacity and positioning for:

  • Network water supply for the vacuum pump
  • Network or chiller water for cooling the product
  • Network or treated water for cooling the mechanical seals
  • Wash water
  • Rinsing water
  • Steam for sanitizing cycles (quantity and precision) (if any)

It is also important to ask yourself:

  • What kind and how many drains are necessary for the fluids?
  • Where must they be placed in relation to the general layout of the plant?
  • Is it necessary to set up compressed air fittings?
  • At what pressure rate?

These are naturally just some of the main structural questions. You are welcome to discuss this matter in detail with our technical staff.
